Not All Moisturizers Are Created Equal – Some Ingredients May Be the Cause of Your Acne

Posted in Murad Skin Care Articles on June 14th, 2011 by admin – Comments Off

Nearly all moisturizers available over-the-counter contain comedogenic ingredients. One out of every three women can expect to be affected by the condition dermatologists are now calling acne cosmetica. It is no small problem. Acne cosmetica may be affecting 30 million women in this country. While no one in the beauty industry set out to intentionally ruin the complexions of millions of women, it is happening.

There is a new crop of moisturizers that contain the ingredients “alpha hydroxy acids”. I have used alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) for over nine years in my products because they are natural exfoliants. Exfoliants prevent buildup of dead skin (keratin). It helps prevent clogged pores. Unfortunately, the cosmetic industry rushed in and put AHA’s in very comedogenic bases so that most acne-prone people cannot use them without causing problems. Even products by companies like Murad and Resource, which are made by dermatologists, have the very comedogenic ingredient, isopropyl palmitate, in them.

There are five alpha hydroxy acids. They are: lactic, glycolic, tartaric, malic and citric. Only lactic and glycolic are even effective. The other three are very irritating. If the moisturizer does not tell you which acid is in the product, do not buy it. The generic “AHA’s” moisturizers put only a drop of the irritating stuff in a pore-clogging base.

Perfect skin moisturizers contain lactic and glycolic acids in a strength of 5% and 10%. Always start out with the lower percent and move up to the higher percent.

Generally speaking, sunscreen ingredients are not a problem. The problem is the base the sunscreen is placed in. Most are greasy, containing comedogenic ingredients. In fact, suntan lotions and sunscreens are often a hidden source of problems for acne sufferers because of their oils and because they are applied liberally and frequently. Watch their ingredient labels as diligently as you would with any other cosmetic.

Most acne-prone women don’t need to wear much moisturizer. They tend to be oily. If you do however decide to use one, check the ingredients diligently.

Best Cellulite Reduction Tips

Posted in Murad Skin Care Articles on June 6th, 2011 by admin – Comments Off

One of the most dreaded sight for any woman is the appearance of those orange peel-looking, dimpled lines on their thighs and butts i.e. cellulite. This is a form of fat that moves from deeper layers of the skin to its upper layers. The dimpled look is created it get mixed with elastin fibers and collagen. If you think that you are alone in getting them, you will be happy to know that almost 85% of women have cellulite! So what you can do is take a look at these cellulite reduction tips to keep them to minimum:

Eat Right

The first ammunition for cellulite reduction is right foods. As Howard Murad, a dermatologist from Hollywood suggest, you eat the right kind of food to improve elastin and collagen of your body. When these two are in their peak, mixing of fat with them is highly unlikely. The foods that will help in this are those that are rich in lecithin like eggs, spinach, peanuts, lettuce and apples. Other foods that will help are servings of oily fish, lean proteins like legumes, turkey and nuts. The foods that you have to avoid like plague are junk foods that are full of fats as that will make your cellulite worse.

Body Brush

Another reason for cellulite appearance is thought to be the toxins building up under your skin. So another tip for cellulite reduction is brushing your body which will get rid of the problem. Take a firm bristled brush and damp it with water. Now rub each leg briskly in the direction of heart. This has to be done two times a day. It will help to rejuvenate your lymphatic system which in turn will effectively remove the toxins from your body in a faster rate.

Tone Up

Cellulites after all are fats; so another way to reduce it is to burn it away. A cardiovascular exercise of 30 to 40 minutes, Monday to Friday will help you to burn it off. For toning your butts and increasing the elasticity of the skin, squats are the perfect exercise. Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. Now bend the knees and in the same time stick out your butt. Hold the position for three seconds and then rise up again. Do them at a set of 15, three times every morning.

Anti-Cellulite Creams

The last tip for cellulite reduction is buying a good anti-cellulite cream and make sure you use it everyday. While choosing the cream, look for the ingredient phosphodiesterase inhibitors which can effectively reduce the dimple effect. Other things to look out for in your anti-cellulite cream are kola nut, ginkgo and caffeine. However, don’t expect instantaneous results; the effects will be visible only after six weeks and only if you use it regularly.

Natural Remedies For Cellulite – Remove Cellulite Without Any Risks

Posted in Murad Skin Care Articles on June 4th, 2011 by admin – Comments Off

Our body is capable of removing cellulite without the need of lotions or creams, as well as invasive surgical techniques that can be very painful if it goes wrong. Mother Nature has provided us with the necessary remedies to remove subcutaneous fat and all we need to do is to try them out.

Water Therapy

One of the most common natural remedies for cellulite is water. It helps get rid of radical substances in our digestive system that is said to be one of the cause of fat build-up in various parts of the body. Regularly drinking above the suggested 8 glass of water daily can help hydrate the body to promote circulation and keeping our skin young and healthy.

Balanced Diet

It is a misconception that overweight and obesity result to this problem. In truth, even those of average weight can have a build-up of subcutaneous fats without them knowing about it. This is mainly due to the food we eat.

One way to get rid of this condition is to come up with a balanced diet plan that integrates the healthy foods offered by Mother Nature — fruits and vegetables being on top of the list. It is also a good idea to minimize or avoid eating food that are high in preservatives, cholesterol, and fat — which is quite common in today’s fast-paced lifestyle.

Physical Exercise

Sweating is a natural way to get rid of fat build-up under your skin, and the best way to go at it is to undergo a physical exercise program daily. You need not spend the whole day in the gym doing sets to help sweat out the problem. Allocate at least 30 minutes of your time in the morning after you wake up to some serious exercise.

Jogging or walking for 15-20 minutes can help reduce fat build-up in your thighs and buttocks. Abdominal crunches or sit-up for 5 minutes or so everyday targets fats in our abdomen. You can also indulge in sports, like swimming, badminton, tennis, or other exercises that requires upper body movement to target those fats in your arms.

A Healthy Massage

Indulge yourself in a healthy session of professional massage therapy to get rid of fats underneath your skin while helping you get rid of everyday stress. Keep in mind that subcutaneous fats are found a few millimeters under your skin — that moves if you apply a little but of pressure to it. Massage can help improve circulation on these areas and break down fat build-up.

Top Anti Aging Treatments

Posted in Murad Skin Care Articles on June 1st, 2011 by admin – Comments Off

If you are interested in looking younger, you might also be interested in a variety of anti aging treatments. These days, it’s not just an option; for some women, adding some effective age defying products and options to their regular routine is a necessity.

What kind of treatments are we talking about? Let’s consider the most popular of the many treatments – exercise, creams, supplements and surgery.

Exercise

Exercise as a treatment plan? It’s certainly a treatment for physical problems as well as a mood lifter, but for skin care?

You might be surprised to know that exercise is an excellent choice for your anti aging skin care regimen. When you exercise, you do much for your skin. You can help your skin by getting the benefit of increasing sweat gland production as well as hormones that are released when you exercise.

As well, when you exercise, you do much to maintain your weight and make you feel better. Both of these also benefit the look and feel of your skin as you age.

Creams

These days, no woman who’s interested in anti aging efforts is without the best wrinkle cream you can find. There are many reasons why, not the least of which is the overall benefits that a good cream can provide.

When you find a good anti wrinkle cream, you are generally finding a product that will do many things – it will moisturize your skin, make it appear firmer and younger, and provide benefits for a long time to come in the form of antioxidants and other ingredients that will help fight aging.

Supplements

Creams are great and a good diet is also fantastic, but supplements sometimes provide an additional boost to your skin. If you need some anti aging skin care help, you can look to a bottle to provide you with many essential nutrients.

If you are always lax about getting enough Vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant, you can simply take a supplement. You might take a supplement of Omega fatty acids. You can add protein powder to your smoothies and supplements that are simply labeled “antioxidants” for a boost of anti aging benefit.

There’s only one real caution when you are considering supplements – consult your doctor or an expert about how much of each supplement you should take. You can overdo it and cause harm to your skin and body. You might also not take enough and provide no benefit to your skin or your body at all.

Surgery

For some women this is a first stop, for others, the last. Wherever it falls with you, it’s good to consider surgery a viable, though not necessary, option in your anti aging efforts. For most women surgical options will be simple ones, like small eye lifts and lip injections. But other women might opt for a full face lift.

If you’re averse to surgery, the best option is to take good care of your skin through lifestyle choices sand to choose anti aging treatments that will help to prevent problems through time.
